A Good Word 12.14.21

Your Will Be Done - Matthew 6:10

Mike Aitcheson is the Pastor of the recently particularized Christ United Fellowship, just south of downtown Orlando. Originally preached on November 21, 2021.

Christ United is a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic PCA church. This sermon was a part of a series on the sermon on the mount. In this particular season, Pastor Mike is going through the Lord’s Prayer phrase by phrase.

Anytime you broach the topic of the will of God, you are quick to run into the issue that the Bible uses that phrase with several shades of meaning. One of the best parts of Pastor Mike’s sermon is how he clearly laid out all of the ways that the Bible uses the phrase, backing each up with scripture. Pastor Aitcheson not only did this, but went on to apply the particular way that Jesus is teaching us to pray in His prayer. Mike was able to accomplish this through his swift and clear presentation. I would venture to guess that the word count is probably double the average PCA sermon. But throughout this, nothing felt rushed or hurried. The points flowed naturally and from a beautiful survey on what God’s will is and how it shapes our prayer.

In all of his exposition of God’s will, Pastor Mike doesn’t shy away from using theological language. He bases his discussion on the classic theological categories of God’s will, decretive, preceptive, and revealed. Nevertheless, Mike preaches with such clarity that even a young christian can understand it. If you have someone asking questions about what God’s will is, this sermon is an incredible resource that you could pass on!

This sermon is truly a Good Word, go listen and be encouraged!

A Good Word is a weekly feature of Semper Ref. We believe what we all need more than good articles is the word of God preached to our hearts. Those of us in ministry particularly need to be regularly hear the word preached by people other than ourselves. Beyond sharing good, Christ-centered messages that embody the ethos of Semper Ref a particular goal of this feature is to give exposure to the ministry of ordinary pastors pursuing faithful Ministry of the Word. For that reason, while we will occasionally share sermons from more well-known individuals, most of the messages in this series will be a good word from a pastor you’ve likely never heard of.
