Confession Thursday 9.23.21

21 And then if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or ‘Look, there he is!’ do not believe it. 22 For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform signs and wonders, to lead astray, if possible, the elect. 23 But be on guard; I have told you all things beforehand. - Mark 13:21-23 (ESV)

6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7 not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed. 9 As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed. - Galatians 1:6-9 (ESV)

Father, forgive us

In our hearts, minds, and lives we have often abandoned the Gospel.

We have trusted in false christs and have repainted Jesus in our image.

We tend to pursue comfortable beliefs rather than truth.

We find excitement in innovation instead of faithfulness.

In becoming content with a distorted gospel

we have become content with a distorted god.

Reform our beliefs and teach us truly.

Give us a love and a passion for the Gospel of Christ as it’s been taught since the beginning.

Make us confident and bold in the good news of grace in Christ alone.
